Role description :

The Senior Civil Engineer or Senior Geotechnical Engineer will support environmental permitting projects for Arcadis clients in Quebec and across Canada, for various renewable energy development projects, including biogas production plants.

The position will require familiarity with environmental permitting.

Role accountabilities :

The position will include, but is not limited to, activities such as :

  • Civil / Geotechnical engineering design including land development planning, hydraulic modeling / calculations, erosion and sediment control evaluations and layout, and earthwork site design, site grading and subsurface investigations during construction projects.
  • Must demonstrate a strong level of organization and communication skills. Experience in soil mechanics, seepage, drainage and dewatering, in-place and laboratory soil testing principles, and excavation support systems is a plus.
  • Able to work in challenging construction scenarios and provide design solutions.
  • Evaluating geotechnical / hydrogeologic soil and groundwater characteristics for : design recommendations for foundation systems, for plant implementation and pavements, etc.

geotechnical support of construction site work for property redevelopment and infrastructure projects; Review pump test data and development of dewatering recommendations.

  • Planning, budgeting, and supervising geotechnical investigations;
  • Analyzing field and laboratory data;
  • Preparing detailed engineering reports and recommendations;
  • Overseeing geotechnical construction supervision activities and supporting our contracting team;
  • Developing permit / construction-level drawings and details;
  • Preparing technical specifications;
  • Report writing for civil and environmental permitting;
  • Construction cost evaluation / estimating;
  • Office-based support of active construction projects (e.g., submittal reviews, field change documentation, site layout information);
  • Familiarity with current geotechnical / hydrogeological software.

Project and Team Management Responsibilities should include :

  • Project management, including accountability for project financial results;
  • Communicating with clients and internal stakeholders;
  • Prepare reports before client submission;
  • Prepare proposals, budgets, and schedules;
  • Candidates must be able to lead a team of engineers and professionals.

Qualifications & Experience :

Required Qualifications :

  • 10+ years' experience in geotechnical or civil engineering fields
  • 10+ years' experience conducting subsurface investigations, preparing foundation; recommendations, earth structure design and / or construction supervision
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in geotechnical or civil engineering field
  • Current P.Eng. designation in Quebec is required
  • Strong written and communication skills in French and English is required
  • Understanding of land development, erosion & sediment control, and stormwater permitting
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, or other terrain modeling design software

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience with hydrologic / hydraulic modeling (e.g., HydroCAD, WinTR-55, PondPack, HEC-RAS)
