Description

The Centre d'Essais Techniques (MER) (CETM) is the main Maritime testing and evaluation center for the National Defense. CETM provides a range of multidisciplinary technical testing services, including non-destructive testing to ensure asset protection. CETM is an establishment of the Department of National Defence (DND) and has been managed by Weir Canada Inc. on behalf of the Government of Canada since 1953. More than 400 people currently work for Weir at CETM or with clients, fulfilling mandates from the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) and DND in a wide variety of technical fields.

Purpose of Role

As a non-destructive testing (NDT) specialist, you will be called upon to support inspection activities for naval vessels located mainly in Montreal, Halifax and Victoria.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the NDT Technician will perform the following duties:

  • Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to zero harm behaviors in support of a world-class safety culture.
  • Perform ship inspections on various components and interpret results.
  • Write inspection reports.
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship with customers.
  • Supervise and train the assistant technician, when required.

Knowledge, training and qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant field.
  • Work ethic and professionalism.
  • Flexibility with work schedules.
  • Concern for providing excellent customer service and quality work.
  • Comfortable working at heights and/or in confined spaces.
  • Good knowledge of ultrasonic testers, penetrating liquids, magnetic particles, eddy currents and other equipment.
  • Bilingualism (spoken and written).
  • Good team player with strong communication skills.
  • Initiative and autonomy.
  • Canadian citizenship with 10+ years residing in Canada with no periods longer than six continuous months out of the country, is required to obtain a government security clearance to the minimum level of Secret.

Rôle et responsabilités

  • Établir et maintenir une relation professionnelle avec les clients.
  • Superviser et former l’aide-technicien, lorsque requis.

Connaissances et qualifications

  • Diplôme dans un domaine pertinent.
  • Éthique de travail et professionnalisme.
  • Flexibilité des horaires.
  • Souci d’offrir un excellent service à la clientèle et un travail de qualité.
  • À l’aise avec le travail en hauteur et/ou les espaces confinés.
  • Bonne connaissance des appareils END, des liquides pénétrants, des particules magnétiques, des courants de Foucault et autres équipements.
  • Bilinguisme (parlé et écrit).
  • Bon esprit d’équipe et bonnes compétences en communication.
  • Initiative et autonomie.
  • Citoyenneté canadienne et résidence continue au Canada au cours des 10 dernières années pour obtenir les autorisations de sécurité gouvernementales à niveau Secret.
